Flour Mixtures: Doughs and Batters

Difference between Batter and Dough:

Batter:

It is a semi-liquid mixture of one or more flours combined with liquids such as water, milk or eggs used to prepare various foods. Often a raising agent such as baking powder is included to ventilate nd fluff up the batter as it cooks. Carbonated water or another carbonated liquid such as beer may be used instea. (Watch out for some really awesome recipes that are to come).

You get thin batter and medium batter. Thin batter is perfect for making pancakes and medium batter is often used as a coating for foods that will be deep fried, flap jacks, or waffels.

Dough:

Is a soft, thick mixture of dry ingredients, such as flour or meal, and liquid, such as water, that is kneaded, shaped, and baked, especially as bread or pastry.

Like batter you also get two types of dough:

Soft dough and it is used for making scones, breads, doughnuts, pizza's or any other types of dough that requires yeast.

Stiff dough is often used in making your pastries for pies.
